Verde Unified School District Selected to be Part of Learning 2025Initiative: A National Push to Transform America’s Education System

U.S. Secretary of Education, Dr. Miguel Cardona, Names May Ranch Elementary School 2021 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School

Message from the Superintendent

Val Verde family,

“In 2020, the world was a sadder, angrier, more worried and more stressed-out place than it has been at any time in the past 15 years” (Gallup 2021 Global Emotions).

At the same time, Val Verde families report a 95% favorable response for Climate of Support for Academic Learning, Safety, and Sense of Belonging/School Connectedness (Panorama Winter 2021-CORE Family Survey).

As we welcome our students back we need to focus on a “Restorative Restart” that centers on relationships between and among families, students, and educators; understanding whole child needs; strengthening staffing and deepening community-based partnerships to address student’s individualized learning and mental health needs; prioritize racial equity, relevance, and rigor in curriculum and instruction; and laying the groundwork for systemic transformation to successfully prepare for long-term change.

As members of the Val Verde family, we have all played a part in our district’s success.  Please know that you are appreciated!!  We should feel very proud of the many accomplishments and accolades that our district has received in spite of the pandemic:

●       2021 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School/May Ranch Elementary

●       2021 Model Agency of the Year for the Val Verde Police Department

●       March of Dimes Fundraising #1 School District in the Nation. Raising $33,260.76 in 2021

●       2021 California Collaborative for Education Model District for Family Engagement

On behalf of the Board of Education, Welcome Back! I am proud and humbled to be part of this family as I begin my twenty-fifth year. We will continue our relentless pursuit in providing a world-class education to our students so that they are college AND career ready and prepared to assume their role in the 21st Century workforce.

As we look to the future, let's continue to work together in making a positive difference in the lives of our students and the communities we serve. I look forward to having students and staff on campus as we return to in-person instruction. Let’s make this the best year yet!

 Sincerely,

Michael R. McCormick
