NCLB School of Choice

Under the provisions of No Child Left Behind (NCLB), students who attend a Title I school that has been identified for Program Improvement (PI) have the option of using NCLB School of Choice process to transfer to a district identified non-Program Improvement school with district-paid transportation.

For parents who select this option, the district will provide transportation to the non-PI school for as long as the home school continues to be identified as a PI school. If the home school exits PI by making AYP for two consecutive years, the student can remain at the school; however, transportation will no longer be district-paid. If the demand for choice exceeds funds available, priority will be given to lowest achieving, low-income students.

If you are interested in transferring your child or children to a non-PI school in the district, you will have the option of selecting from the identified schools on the PI NCLB School of Choice list. Your preference of a non-PI school will be taken into consideration. Supplemental Educational Services (SES)

As part of the No Child Left Behind Act, schools must make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) on state achievement tests. Schools that are funded with Title I funds that do not make AYP are give “Program Improvement (PI)” status. A school that stays in PI status for two years in a row must offer Supplemental Educational Services (SES), or free tutoring, to students who receive free or reduced-price meals.

SES programs are free tutoring services offered by providers that are approved by the California State Board of Education. These providers offer additional academic help and individual instruction to eligible students in low performing schools.

These services are offered in addition to instruction or intervention programs provided by the school or during the school day. Students can be provided services in reading, language arts, or math. SES services are high quality, research-based, and specifically designed to increase student achievement

If your child qualifies to receive free tutoring, please complete the SES application by listing your provider choices. We ask that you select at least two providers in the event that your first choice is not available. For your convenience, a list of providers and services they provide is available for your review.

Please return the completed SES Application to Educations Services by November 8, 2013, for priority placement. Applications are available on this website, in the main office of schools in Year 2 PI status, or can be picked up at the two Provider Fairs which will be held on October 22, 2013, from 9:00 a.m. to noon or October 29, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Both fairs will be held at Val Verde High School in their school gym.
