SCHOOL FEES
The school fee is the last fee a homeowner pays prior to pulling permits for one of the following projects:
- building a new home
- room addition to an existing home (note: additions less than 500 s.f. are exempt from school fees and a waiver letter will be issued in lieu of payment)
- installation or replacement of a mobile home
Fees are assessed by the jurisdictional agency where the project is located, i.e., the City of Perris, the City of Moreno Valley, or the County of Riverside. The homeowner will be issued a form from the respective agency which sets forth the total square footage being assessed. All school fees are paid in the District’s Facilities Department and check(s) are made payable to Val Verde USD. Forms of payment accepted include personal check, bank check, cashiers check. Credit card payments are not accepted.
Level I Fee
On January 25, 2012, the State Allocation Board (“SAB”), pursuant to Government Code Section 65995(b)(3), has voted to increase the allowable amount of statutory school facilities fees (“Level I School Fees”) at $3.20 per square foot of assessable space for residential development, and $0.51 per square foot of chargeable covered and enclosed space for commercial/industrial development. Therefore, school districts may soon assess Level I School Fees at the same established $3.20 and $0.51 rates, provided such rates are properly justified pursuant to law. Increases to be adopted March 2012.
Level II Fee
Due to the economic downturn especially in the area of residential housing, Val Verde Unified School District will not be establishing a Level II School Fee at this time. Val Verde USD will only assess the Level I School Fee which has been allowed by the State Allocation Board. (please refer to the explanation above.)
